Orenco Originals Cranes Waves Peach Blossoms Asian Suzuki Kiitsu Counted Cross Stitch

This is a cross-stitch pattern, not a completed product. It is not a kit, and contains no floss or fabric. This purchase is for a paper chart and contains no floss or fabric. This chart was Inspired by a beautiful woodblock print by Suzuki Kiitsu,1796-1858, who was a Japanese painter, poet and illustrator. The last master of the Rinpa school of decorative painting, he moved to Edo (Tokyo) as a youth and became the leading pupil of Sakai Hoitsu, the instigator of the Rinpa revival in the early 19th century. By the age of 30 Kiitsu was collaborating with Hoitsu on the compilation of Korin hyakuzu ('One hundred pictures by Korin'). He adopted the elegant compositions and brilliantly opaque colors of the Rinpa masters, as in the exquisite pair of six-panel folding screens Cranes, but was also affected by the decorative naturalism of the Maruyama-Shijo schools. Kiitsu was introduced to Yamatoe (traditional Japanese-style painting) as practiced by the TOSA SCHOOL, to the official Sino-Japanese styles of the KANO SCHOOL, and to the idealistic taste of literati artists, and he is well known for works in the Yamatoe tradition such as the hanging scroll of the Fox's Bridal Procession His finest paintings are hanging scrolls bearing evocative renditions of seasonal plants such as maple tree...

This is a cross-stitch pattern, not a completed product. It is not a kit, and contains no floss or fabric. This purchase is for a paper chart and contains no floss or fabric. Inspired by a beautiful woodblock print. The symbolism of the Carp Koi might be surprising. To many the Japanese koi might appear to be a simple fish with a humble purpose. Japanese and other Asian cultures, the koi fish is a celebrated creature, embodying many noble qualities and ideals. The word 'koi' was originally used in Japan to describe wild varieties of the common carp fish. It is believed that the common carp was brought from Eurasia to China and Korea approximately 2000 years ago, primarily as a source of food. Carp are a very hardy species and can withstand long The word koi is simply the Japanese word for 'carp', and is generally used in Japan to describe all carp; wild or captive. There is evidence that around 1840, after centuries of keeping koi in captivity, Japanese farmers began to notice subtle color changes in certain fish. These new colored varieties were bred further and kept as a hobby rather than as the traditional food source.

Between 1912-1926 he again devoted himself to painting. Using the name 'Shoson', he returned to the woodblock medium, collaborating with Watanabe. Shoson did produce some prints using the name "Hoson' which were published by Kawaguchi between 1930-1931, but the majority of his prints were published by Watanabe.
